Big decisions are hard.

Building a house involves myriad interrelated big decisions that compound on one another.

Can we afford it? Is an important question of course. But as we have waded through this process for nearly eighteen months, the biggest question is: Do we have the stamina?

We started with one architect and a plan for a modern farmhouse theme. After attending several Tiburon Design Review Board hearings remotely, listening to neighbor comments, and struggling with our roof layout, we changed directions and architects. We settled in on a basic floor plan. We elected to go with a more modern aesthetic and made every effort to minimize neighbor impact.

The final design is the result of many decisions. One was to minimize the height of the building. Solar played a role in the wedge shape of the great room and delivered the opportunity for clerestory windows to light the interior of the house. The garage height and the height of the second master bedroom were intentional to hide the solar panels from the street.
